Lindfield Pond posts and railings
Published: 15 July 2026
We are delighted to formally announce that the repair and replacement of the posts and railings around Lindfield Pond has now been successfully completed.
This has been a complex and collaborative project involving several stakeholders. Since late 2024, Lindfield Parish Council has worked diligently behind the scenes to help bring the scheme to fruition and ensure the long-term preservation of this iconic village feature.
The project has been made possible through significant funding from West Sussex County Council, a substantial contribution from Lindfield Parish Council, and a generous donation from The Lindfield Society.
The posts and railings are not only an important and attractive part of the historic character of Lindfield Pond but also provide a vital safety barrier for pedestrians using the surrounding footways and enjoying the pond area. The new posts have been crafted from durable, hard-wearing oak, providing a robust and attractive solution that will enhance the pond and maintain this important safety function for many years to come.
To ensure the project was both cost-effective and environmentally responsible, sections of the railings were replaced only where necessary, while others were carefully refurbished and reused. This approach reduced waste and supported the sustainable reuse of existing materials.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to former Councillor Garry Wall for his support in helping progress the project, to our current County Councillor, Cavan Wood, to West Sussex County Council as the principal funder, and to The Lindfield Society for its valued financial contribution.
Finally, we would like to thank everyone involved in helping to preserve and enhance this much-loved landmark. Lindfield Parish Council will now take over responsibility for maintaining the posts and railings. The improvements will ensure that Lindfield Pond continues to be enjoyed safely by residents and visitors alike for many years to come.
