The partial collapse of the pond wall is a great concern for Lindfield Parish Council (LPC) and we are sure to many village residents too. West Sussex County Council (WSCC) are the owners of the footpath and supporting wall. We will continue to liaise with our colleagues at WSCC including our local ward member Cllr Garry Wall regarding the situation. LPC would like to see an appropriate long-term repair plan which not only reinstates the footpath and wall but makes the whole construction fit for the future.
LPC does, however, recognise that such a collapse was unplanned and that the County Council’s budgets need to find a way to accommodate the related costs, as well as allowing time to design the solution, engage appropriate contractors and undertake the works required. As this is likely to take some time, LPC is pushing for a temporary solution to either reinstate a footpath on the pond side or provide suitable crossing controls to work around the current blockage, until more permanent reinstatement is possible.
